Strange Aeons 2nd Ed Kickstarter Arrived

Well, my Kickstarter showed a few weeks back from Uncle Mike and wow what a treat!

I know I have been long quiet also, lots of stuff has been going on over the past few months and I have been lazy, of late the Fiscal Closeout at work for the year and my accident also didn't help. My back was sore about two weeks and took that same amount of time (if not more) to get the SUV fixed also...grrrr....

Lots of goodies and a good bit already painted and ready to roll! Stay tuned as I will start to roll out many articles including a test run with the solo rules, reviews, painted minis and my thoughts on game techniques for both Threshold and Lurkers alike!

New Lurkers await!

I'll go into a full review later but for now my shipment arrived that I purchased from Mason! Top notch work from a gent that just started to learn the ropes! Also, he picked a great caster that did a fine quality job (not cheap ass tin).

I wanted some of the Dunwich misfits and Mason was kind enough to toss in a bonus figure which is also great! She will no doubt join the investigator team now!

If you don't know Mason go check out his work on the Lead Adventures board! Just haunt the Cthulu area and the old ones will speak to you!

Great looking fig!

And now for a musical interlude!

Yes, I am a sick twisted bastard! Watch it all and loose thy Sanity!

Product Review: Litko Mounted Horse Markers (duplicate post from Dice of Legends)

This was posted on by Dice of Legends Blog but I added it here due to the special rules in Strange Aeons to use horses. Now, the problem is finding some 1920's figures that are mounted...problem solved!

I got home from the Thanksgiving holidays and had a package waiting for me that included two Litko Character Mount Markers.

As you can see I put one together and left one in the package to see how you would get the product if you want to order your own.

Assembly was fairly simple, but does require a touch of glue to hold them into place. Unlike other plastic markers like Gale Force 9  markers that lock together, you need something to keep them stable. Is the glue required, no, but it helps.

The horse comes in two parts, the front and back with a central plastic clear disk that has two forks that connects to the two horse half's with a central slot that also holds a stem from both parts to a central part of the disk for more support. Overall  it is a well done design and a smart concept.

Here is one of the Litko Horses with a Foundry Old West Figure. The Horse I got is mounted on a 40mm round base.

Another shot with a Black Cat Bases Adventurer

What is nice about these markers is that you can use them for any game system from Fantasy, Old West to really anything else that could involve a figure needing to be mounted and helps avoid the work of having to make a mounted version of a figure to use in games. On the flip side, they are just that a marker, not as pretty as a figure would be and you have to make the call one what you would be willing to accept for your games. Personally, I like the markers....the only other downside I can see with these markers is needing several for a game as that can rack up in price.

FRP Games has them at $4.79 each. The downside with them is the shipping can get pricey unless you are getting a bunch of stuff which is nice if you are picking up a variety of gaming stuff for various games.

Litko has it for sale on their site also for $5.99 plus shipping.

Here is how you can get them in colors and base sizes:

Warhorse colors:
Opaque Brown
Opaque Black
Opaque White

Base Sizes and Shapes:
50x25mm, GW style rectangular base
2 inch square, perfect for fantasy grid gaming
40mm round, for skirmish battle games
50mm round, for use with the larger scale skirmish games.

Litko is having a 20% off sale until Cyber Monday. They have a variety of cool stuff, I keep eyeing the Cthulu Dice Tower!

Female Cultists!

Found this little gem on the internet! Female cultists! They look great, granted they lack weapons but perhaps they are concealed! A few could be converted also.

Reaper Miniatures: BONES

Saw this posted on another blog and found this worth posting here to those of us that are fans of saving a few bucks....I know I am...

This werewolf is just $2! Resin, ready to paint out of the package (no washing or primer), high detail and they claim easy to convert as well.

Worth watching the video....

I have to admit, I may grab at least the Werewolf for Strange Aeons as it looks good and the price is right. The Ghost has some potential also....

On a side note, imagine the savings on shipping? A lighter material = less shipping cost. Maybe Reaper will set the stage now to show companies like GW you don't have to charge $10 (by this I mean a $50 box for 5 models), $20 or more for a single resin figure!

Reaper has my respect....

My first order of Strange Aeons gear!

Well, it has been a few days since I got my stuff from Uncle Mike and I have been working on the building this blog up to something that I hope will be a good resource and enjoyable site to visit for fans of the game.

First up is some pictures of the figures I bought. I have to admit I was taken also by the "white resin" instead of "white metal" yet refreshing and light. Adding them to a base gave them some weight to help keep them balanced out and on the plus side unlike metal they are less likely to chip.

Yea, I went for the Cultist Packs II and III from Uncle Mike. The figures in them just had the weapon loads that I wanted for my figures. In the future I will get the Cultist pack I.

Threshold Agents III. Again, a nice treat here and a disappointment. I thought the guy on the right had a Tommy gun but two shotguns isn't bad. The guy in the middle is an interesting chap that can be a doctor, scientist or other scholar. What amused me later on was when I started to clean the figures that both shotgun users was smoking. Yes, the girl has a cig in her hand and the other guy has one in his mouth. That was the rage back then....

The Rule book!

Grabbed this off the internet, mine is too far away to go get!

Anatoli's Game room has by far done the best review on this game and the product. So, I am going to post his URL as this is the blog post that really got me interested in this game. He does a great job in explaining everything and there is other fantastic links including a Q&A and a game play review.

Here is my personal comments after reading the book for the past few days.

  • The game is very simple and appears to get almost anyone straight into the action quickly.
  • You don't have to have a huge model collection to start and can grow with you as you play.
  •  The rules are well done, simple and easy to follow.
  • My only negative thought is an index at the back would have been nice.
  • The game design is clearly done "by a gamer, for gamers".
  • The book design is amazing, a well done with the spiral binding, the clear cover to protect the book and the thick pages that are both durable and hard to get dirty. You know what I mean, a little soda, a coffee stain, dirt or even paint grace any of your gaming books? Yea, me too....this it just seems like it would wipe off and on with the show!
  • There is lots of expansion potential here, both in house rules and by Uncle Mike Worldwide. I hope that  Mike can take steps to keep products out there to keep people in the game as he has a high quality product. I was sad to see that Shocking Tales which is a gaming magazine that he produces with bonus rules and other goodies for the game are both out of print. There is talk they will appear as PDF rules but nothing else other than that. Personally, I feel that either players should be able to buy the books still or post the PDFs if they are out of print. Supporting a game is huge and encouraging the players down to new fields is important to keeping a game fresh.
Drop me a line and tell me your thoughts of the game, your personal experiences and anything else you would like to chat about! This is what this blog was created for!
